The Gold Coast Football Club, nicknamed the Suns, is based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. It began playing in the AFL competition for the first time in 2011.
The Gold Coast Suns began playing at Carrara Stadium in their foundation year of 2009. The redeveloped Carrara Stadium (commercially known as Metricon Stadium) was officially opened on 22 May 2011 by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.
The team song is “Suns of the Gold Coast Sky”.
