English and Aussie Rules

Australian Football International and AFL Europe are supporting a new and exciting initiative for Aussie Rules in Europe.

English & Aussie Rules is a combined English language and sports program that has been created and developed by English in Soriano and Australia Consulenza, both Italian based organisations owned and operated by Peta L Lowry.

The program was originally developed from a trial program held in Viterbo, Lazio in 2010 and has evolved by working with English schools and students in the Tuscia region of Italy to fill the need for additional English language learning programs.

Partnering with the local middle school in Soriano nel Cimino, Viterbo, the program will be piloted from January next year for 6 months. The medium-term aim is to offer Teacher training and development to both Elementary and Middle schools in the Viterbo region to enable the expansion of the program into this region for the 2015/16 European school year. Longer-term focus is on continuing to evolve and develop the model in preparation for promotion and roll out into other parts of Italy and Europe where English is a second language.

Children are taught how to speak English and how to kick a footy, with the emphasis on learning, participation and fun!

The English program centres around Australia, it’s history, culture, geography and of course footy! It provides an insight into life and sport in Australia and shares Australian society core values.
