AFI Global Club logoAustralian Football International (AFI) is pleased to announce that the Kyabram Bombers are the first club in Australia to be recognised as a Global Club.

This follows the visit to Uganda in by John Lilford from the Kyambram Bombers. John is a former player with Kyabram, and was a member of the 1975 Premiership Team coached by Peter Lyon. Following his playing career he was a Selector and Board member.

Bombers President, Mark Schumann, said “we are excited to be the inaugural AFI Global Club. We welcome the opportunity to support Aussie Rules in less privileged countries.”

John travelled from Kyabram in Victoria to the Suubi Centre in Uganda. Suubi Centre is a community based development initiative situated in Lubanda Village, Lwengo District, south western Uganda. ‘Suubi’ is a Luganda word which means Hope.

Whilst in Uganda John was thrilled to be able to teach some of the Suubi children how to play Aussie Rules football. A highlight was their big mid year sports tournament when he held a kicking competition in front of thousands of people who had come to enjoy finals day.
