AUSTRALIA & BHUTAN
Australia and Bhutan have long enjoyed warm and friendly relations, predating the establishment of formal diplomatic relations in 2002. The Australian High Commissioner to India (based in New Delhi) is accredited to Bhutan. The Honorary Consul for Bhutan in Australia is based in Sydney.
According to the 2016 Census, 5,953 people reported their birthplace as Bhutan. Many are Bhutanese refugees, having arrived in Australia since 2008 under the Humanitarian Resettlement Program.
Our aim is to work with the Bhutanese community to field a team in the AFI Touch Footy World Cup, an event which is held annually in Melbourne. The format of the World Cup is 9-a-side, mixed (men & women) and non-contact.
If you are of Bhutanese descent and keen to represent Bhutan, please join the Team Bhutan Facebook group.
