NORTH WEST PROVINCE

Footy 9s is the key to the future development of the game in South Africa. And the great synergy is that there are 9 Provinces in South Africa.

The North West Province is one of those 9 Provinces – with the others being Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and Western Cape.

The North West Footy 9s league will feature teams in 4 locations: Rustenburg, Vryburg, Klerkdorp (Khuma) and Itsoseng (near Mafikeng).

Rustenburg is located at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range. It is the most populous city in North West province, with a population of approx. 600,000 people.

Vryburg is a large agricultural town with a population of approx. 50,000 people. It is South Africa’s largest beef-producing district and is sometimes called “the Texas of South Africa”.

Khuma is a township situated near Klerksdorp. With a population of approx. 200,000 people, Klerksdorp is well known as the birthplace of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Itsoseng is a town in Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, with a population of approx. 30,000 people.
