PLAYING TOURS
Crucial to the development of Footy in South Africa has been regular visits by Australian touring teams.

These have included the Australian Army, Australian Convicts, Flying Boomerangs, Geelong College, Subiaco FC, AIS / AFL Under 17, School Sport Australia and St Marys FC.

Further, AFL clubs to have visited South Africa have included the Brisbane Lions, Fremantle Dockers, St Kilda, Carlton, West Coast Eagles, Collingwood and Hawthorn.

Once senior Footy 9s clubs and competitions are established it is important that Australian teams are again invited to tour.

In the photo above, the South African player with his head turned is Duane Vermeulen. After playing footy for South Africa against the Australian Convicts, Duane played for the Blue Bulls and the Pumas, Free State Cheetahs and Western Province in South African domestic rugby, the Cheetahs, Stormers and Bulls in Super Rugby and Toulon in the Top 14. He was an instrumental part of South Africa winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup and received the Man of the Match award in the final.
